I am a horror writer based in Australia, and if you are an avid Halloween lover like me you will be well-aware of the Halloween-haters here down under. They’re usually the grumpy old men who yell at kids who are dressed up and just trying to have a fun night out by screaming, “We’re not American!”

Halloween is one of the only holidays I celebrate throughout the year, despite my religious upbringing. Our family is too small and too spread-out to continue with traditions that were reserved for Christmas. I've never celebrated Australia Day, as my mother's birthday is on January 26th when it was usually celebrated, and as a...

If you follow the classic trope of a horror movie you will see that there is a particular formula when it comes to the characters involved and the untimely deaths they receive. Despite characters being in different scenarios, locations and being hunted by different killers, the classic horror trope will generally follow a particular route, showcasing the hunting and the deaths of the five main characters.

These characters are generalised to fit stereotypes and include "The Slut", "The Jock", "The Brain", "The Fool" and "The Final Girl". There have been so many amazing characters who take on these roles in horror movies,...

The late 70's, 80's and 90's completely reinvigerated the horror genre with a big change in the game. Unlike the supernatural creatures with the heart of gold that dominated the silver screen of the 1930's to the 1950's, these new faces of horror were bloody, brutal, and undescriminate. It was the birth of the slasher.

When you think of slasher horror movies there are a few central characters who come into mind, and I think it's about time we pitt them against each other in a big Freddy vs Jason, Alien vs Prediator sort of way. Welcome to the second Ultimate Face of Horror Death Match.

*Please note, many of these horror m...

Watching a horror movie a day for a whole month may seem like a mindless form of entertainment, but what started off as a way to kick my writers block to the curb (which worked by the way - I finished writing my Cosmic Decay: Contamination sequel earlier in the year!) ended up being quite a learning process for me.

Back in 2017 I learnt the challenge was a good ice breaker for the singles amongst us, and a great idea for a date. I learnt that I am really desensitised to violence now (despite shying away from gore when I was younger) and I learnt that more people are freaked out by the idea of watching 31 horror movies in...

In 2017 I started the tradition of watching a horror movie a day for the entire 31 days of October. I continued this tradition in 2018 and watched some of the favourite horror movies of my friends and family, which can be found listed here.

In every movie, there are horror movies and horror characters which were real stand outs for me during my viewing process. Like last years The Ones That Made The Cut article, here are the best of the best from my 2018 viewing sesh! Please note though that the below will contain spoilers.

Best Death Scene In A Horror Movie: Clara and Koldo in Rec 3: Genesis

Halloween is my favourite time of year, but I always struggle as to whether or not I want to celebrate in classic orange pumpkin and black bat style Halloween traditions, or if I want to channel the brightly coloured and sugared spirit of Dia de los Muertos.

One year my Halloween festivities landed squarely on the 1st November, which is the start of the Mexican tradition, so I decided to uphold an honor dead ancestors and living spirits alike. We made invitations that claimed “we live, we die, we party” and suggested painting their faces like sugar skulls so that the spirits won’t recognise them as humans and won’t haunt...

I love Halloween! It is honestly my favourite time of the year because it combines my love of all things horror, dressing up and having costume parties, and having sweet and delicious things!

Unfortunately here in Australia we don't celebrate Halloween as widely as the Northern Hemisphere does, and I always think that is a shame, but if you're friends with me or have been following me for awhile you will know that I am always celebrating the spookiest time of the year!

This year I have decorated my house and my office in heaps of spooky decorations and treats, and have all of my candy and food ready for trick or treaters...

I love Halloween. It combines all of my favourite things - costumes, candy, and the supernatural. I love to find any excuse to dress up in costume so when Halloween rolls around I am usually on board with at least two different costume changes.

One of these costumes is generally one that I will wear for whenever October 31st falls a weekday and I have to go to work. Usually when this happens, I encourage my co-workers to get into the spirit and dress up with me. I decorate the office, host an afternoon tea, and stay in character for as long as possible.

There is, however, a huge difference when it comes to workplace Hallo...

Having a bit more of a decadent and fabulous looking Halloween this year? Well avoid the scarily cut pumpkins and get a bit more creative.

I love the idea of having alternative painted pumpkins as decorations, and while it's still just as DIY it's less messy and more pretty. Here are two of my favourite alternative pumpkin designs for your next Halloween bash:

The Pretty Pumpkin

If you are looking for something more sweet rather than scary you can do one of my favourite ideas which is making a water colour pumpkin! To make you’re own water colour pumpkin, simply follow the straight forward instructions found at L...

Halloween decorations are usually dime a dozen; you buy a whole bunch of decorations from your local $2 store and reuse them to death - literally!

I decided to go a bit different with my Halloween decorations one year after I found a ton of fake dismembered limbs wrapped in clingwrap on styrofoam plates and I decided to create my very own terribly gory meat market - serving human meat and body parts on the menu!

I had an old blood drip table cover roll from my last horror themed 21st party so I hung the table cover around the side of the island in the kitchen. Then I had a plastic sheet that I also got from a cheap store...
